What is 3D Secure? 3D Secure, as the name suggests, is a 3D security protocol. The system verifies and protects the information flow between the cardholder, the website (store) and the bank, which constitute the three pillars of internet shopping, with special passwords and keys. It takes its name from here because it provides an interaction that spans these three domains. It is the most preferred secure payment system since it is supported by Visa and MasterCard, one of the world's largest card providers. How does it work? When purchasing a service or product, a screen appears where we enter card information. After verifying our information, we will be directed to the 3D Secure screen during payment. Here, an OTP (one-time password) is sent by the bank to the card holder's mobile phone via SMS. This password, which is valid for a limited time, cannot be sent to anyone other than the card holder. In this way, the card is prevented from being used without the consent of the card holder. The received password is entered on the payment screen. Thus, the card holder both confirms his identity and approves the shopping. After the verification by the bank, the payment to the buyer is completed. The card holder is notified via e-mail/SMS that the transaction is successful.
